About the scheme
The Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Scheme, launched by the Government of India on September 17, 2023, is a transformative initiative aimed at uplifting traditional artisans and craftspeople, often referred to as “Vishwakarmas.” This scheme is a tribute to their invaluable contributions to India’s cultural heritage and economic foundation.
Designed to preserve and promote 18 traditional trades such as carpentry, blacksmithing, tailoring, pottery, goldsmithing, and more, the scheme empowers artisans with skill development, financial support, and modern market access. It seeks to integrate these trades into the modern economy, ensuring artisans can thrive in today’s competitive landscape.

How to Apply for PM Vishwakarma Yojana – Online Registration Process
The application and registration process for the PM Vishwakarma Yojana is now active.
Interested artisans and craftsmen can apply online through Common Service Centers (CSC) or Gram Panchayats.
The online registration process consists of four main steps:
1. Mobile and Aadhaar Verification: Applicants need to verify their mobile number and Aadhaar details for identity confirmation.
2.Artisan Registration: Eligible artisans and craftsmen can register their details, including their trade and skillset.
3. Issuance of PM Vishwakarma Certificate: Once registered, applicants will receive a PM Vishwakarma certificate as proof of eligibility.
4.Loan Application: After receiving the certificate, beneficiaries can apply for loans under the scheme to grow their business or trade.
These steps can be completed easily with the assistance of CSC centers or local Gram Panchayats, ensuring accessibility for those unfamiliar with online processes.

To register for the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, follow these steps:

- The homepage of the website will appear.
- On the homepage, look for the “How to Register” link and click on it.

- Select the “Artisan” Tab
- A new page will open, where you need to click on the “Artisan” tab.

- Clicking on the “Artisan” tab will open a PDF document.
- This document contains step-by-step details on how to complete your registration.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must belong to a community of traditional artisans/craftsmen (e.g., carpenters, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, potters, tailors)
- Provide proof of artisan/craftsman status (e.g., association membership, government-issued certificates)
- .Age limit: Typically 18–50 years. Preference for skill-trained or certified individuals.
- Must belong to economically weaker sections or meet specified income thresholds.
- Valid bank account linked with Aadhaar for DBT.
- Indian citizenship required.
- Should not be a beneficiary of similar government schemes.
Key Documents Required:
- Aadhaar Card.
- Proof of residence (e.g., ration card, voter ID, utility bill).

Objective Of PM Vishwakarma Yojana
- To enable the recognition of artisans and craftspeople as Vishwakarma, making them eligible to avail all the benefits under the Scheme.

Comprehensive List of Trades Under PM Vishwakarma Yojana
1. Wood-Based Trades:
- Carpenter (Suthar): Crafting and repairing wooden structures and furniture.
- Boat Maker: Constructing and maintaining wooden boats.
- Toy Maker (Traditional): Creating traditional wooden toys.
2. Iron and Metal-Based Trades:
- Blacksmith (Lohar): Forging and shaping iron to create tools and implements.
- Lock Maker: Designing and producing metal locks.
- Goldsmith (Sunar): Crafting and repairing gold jewelry.
- Sculptor (Moortikar): Carving statues and sculptures from metal.
3. Stone-Based Trades:
- Stone Breaker: Breaking and shaping stones for construction and other purposes.
- Stone Sculptor: Carving and crafting stone sculptures.
4. Clay-Based Trades:
- Potter (Kumhaar): Creating earthen pots and clay items.
5. Textile-Based Trades:
- Tailor (Darzi): Stitching and altering garments.
- Weaver (Bunkar): Weaving fabrics using traditional looms.
6. Animal Skin-Based Trades:
- Cobbler (Charmkar): Repairing and making footwear and other leather goods.
7. Grass, Bamboo, and Cane-Based Trades:
- Basket/Mat Weaver: Weaving baskets and mats from natural materials.
- Broom Maker: Crafting brooms from grass or bamboo.
8. Other Traditional Trades:
- Barber (Nai): Providing grooming and haircutting services.
- Washerman (Dhobi): Washing and ironing clothes.
- Garland Maker (Malakar): Creating floral garlands for various occasions.
Benefits Under PM Vishwakarma Yojana
The PM Vishwakarma Yojana provides multiple benefits to traditional artisans and craftspeople to support their livelihood, enhance their skills, and improve market access.
1. Financial Assistance:
- Collateral-Free Loan:
Eligible artisans can avail of a loan up to ₹3 lakh in two phases:- First installment: ₹1 lakh at 5% interest.
- Second installment: ₹2 lakh (after successful repayment of the first loan).
- Subsidized Interest Rate:
The government covers 8% interest, making the loan highly affordable.
2. Skill Development & Training:
- Basic and Advanced Training:
Artisans receive 5-7 days of basic training and 15 days of advanced training for upskilling. - Stipend:
During training, beneficiaries get a daily stipend of ₹500 to support their expenses.
3. Toolkit Incentive:
- A financial grant of ₹15,000 is provided to artisans to purchase modern tools and equipment to enhance their productivity.
4. Digital Transactions Incentive:
- ₹1 cashback per eligible digital transaction, up to 100 transactions per month, to encourage digital payments.
5. Market Access & Promotion:
- Branding & Marketing Support:
Government assists artisans in promoting their products nationally and internationally. - E-commerce Integration:
Helps artisans sell their products on platforms like GeM (Government e-Marketplace) and other e-commerce websites. - Participation in Exhibitions & Fairs:
Facilitates artisans in showcasing their crafts at trade fairs and government-supported events.
6. Recognition & Certification:
- Beneficiaries receive a PM Vishwakarma Digital ID and Certificate after successful registration. This ID serves as a verification tool to access scheme benefits easily.
Loan and Interest Rate under PM Vishwakarma Yojana
Loan Details under the PM Vishwakarma Yojana:
All eligible artisans and craftsmen under the PM Vishwakarma Yojana can avail of a loan of up to ₹3 lakh in two phases at a subsidized interest rate of 5% per annum:
1. First phase: Loan of ₹1 lakh at a concessional interest rate.
2. Second phase: Loan of ₹2 lakh after successful repayment of the first loan.
Skill Development Training and Stipend:
The scheme includes two types of skill development programs:
1. Basic Training
2. Advanced Training
Participants of these courses will receive a daily stipend of ₹500 during the training period.
Loan Repayment Term:
1. 1st Tranche Loan: ₹1,00,000 to be repaid within 18 months.
2. 2nd Tranche Loan: ₹2,00,000 to be repaid within 30 months.
Additional Financial Assistance:
Under this scheme, artisans and craftsmen will also receive:
PM Vishwakarma Certificate and Vishwakarma ID Card as official recognition.
Incentives for digital transactions and market support to help artisans grow their businesses.
₹15,000 financial assistance for purchasing modern tools and equipment to improve productivity and quality

PM Vishwakarma Yojana Progress & Achievements
Since its launch, the PM Vishwakarma Yojana has made significant progress in empowering artisans across India.
Applications and Registrations
- Total Applications: As of January 1, 2025, 2,63,14,543 applications have been received.
- Successful Registrations: Out of these, 26,39,817 applicants have been successfully registered.
Training and Skill Development
- Basic Skill Training: As of July 19, 2024, 5,17,835 candidates have completed basic skill training.
- State-wise Training Progress:
- Karnataka: 1,12,737 trained
- Jammu & Kashmir: 82,514 trained
- Gujarat: 81,542 trained
Financial Assistance
- Loan Approvals: As of July 29, 2024, 56,526 applications have been approved for loans amounting to ₹551.80 crore.
- Loan Disbursement: ₹132.49 crore has been disbursed to 15,878 beneficiaries.
